I spent the weekend in San Francisco with my mom & daughter. If you're only as spectacular as the company you keep, I was uncontrollably spectacularificness! I love the diverse humanity of the international city. There were obvious predominant trends made more obvious by trendy multinational chain stores, but the trend toward individuation through style was the most overt. People en masse took simple trends and tweaked and matched and clashed and combined both current & passé. Individual styles were like windows to the souls of their wearers. As a community, it was like the populace and their ensembles were portals on a cruise ship. You could see into the cabins if you looked one way or see the collective perspective to the sea from the other. If I could bring one thing back to Humboldt with me it would be the communal embrace of individuate style.
P.S. Men with scarves are so hot ;)

Run As The Wind

I don't run to lose weight I run to experience weightlessness. There is a moment in between foot falls when I am suspended. So much is undefined in that instant that I am living a moment outside of time.
Granted, this usually happens about 20% of my actual clocked running time. Being airborne requires being full with air. This is the micro moment between breaths. Giving up the strangle hold I keep on my capillaries in the interest of poise & control, I find the freedom of release.

From dramatically meek to festival chic and the hoody of the week, oh sweet Humboldt, I love your style. Hoodies, feathers, vanity dreads; nonconformity, immaculately unstyled.

Sometimes, it seems, your effort to exude altruism actually presents as disregard. You aren't dressing down to avoid actively involving yourself with personal style and hygiene are you?

Knowing how spiritual and vast our community members are, it's time to seize the opportunity of this new year to commit to presence, authenticity & occasion appropriateness. Ladies, a Dooney or Coach bag does not make your hoody and Ugg boot ensemble sophisticated, it just let's everyone know you think you're too cool to care. Gentlemen, ask a girl near you how attractive your work clothes are when you aren't working.

Unity through individual artful living is already a thing here, let's ditch the cliches and show some panache! No one wants all the women couture & the men metro, I'm only encouraging you to make mindful, occasion appropriate apparel selections in 2012.
